ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A new, free, community-wide housing data portal for all counties, cities and villages in the State of Michigan has launched.

The State of Michigan Housing Data Portal is a partner project led by the Michigan Municipal League, and generously funded by the Michigan State Housing Development Association and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

“For so long we have needed a tool like this that can synthesize localized housing and economic data for everyone, from our largest to our smallest communities. The reports that community leaders can easily create and share from the portal will make a difference in the pursuit of solving Michigan’s housing needs,” said Melissa Milton-Pung, program manager for the League’s Policy Research Labs.

The portal, which can be found at, is free to all and contains detailed housing market data for every county, city and village in Michigan that will continue to be updated from reliable sources. This fresh data will help community members and housing stakeholders across the state understand key local trends, compare these trends to other geographies and create detailed reports that can be downloaded straight from the portal.

The data is powered by American Community Survey (ACS) five-year and decennial data, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), build permit stats, federal reserve, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA), U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD), National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), Zillow and several other cited sources.

HR&A advisors out of New York City and Washington, D.C., was hired by the League to help develop and design the portal.
